ISOS organized Cilmiwadaag Platform on “Somali Revolutionary Era: Rise,Falland Legacy”, presented by Mustafa Feiruz on 20/10/2016.
The Somali army seized power by military coup d’état on 21 October 1969 and lasted almost 22 years, from October 1969 to January 1991.
Roughly, the first half of this era was its rise, while the second half was its fall.Subsequently, Somalia descended into anarchy and devastating civilwar; and it scripted its legacy on the next decades in economic, social and political dimensions.
Mr. Feiruz explored the historiographical developments of this period with describing and analyzing the main shifts. He examined how this period scripted its legacy on the next decades in economic, social and political dimensions.
The participants discussed effectively and shared their comments and questions.
Mr Mustafa Feiruz is a senior lecturer in African and Somali Studies at Mogadishu University and heads the Institute for Somali Studies in Mogadishu.
